  • Proven experience in building surveying within the social housing or public sector environment.
  • Strong knowledge of building pathology, construction methods, and current legislation.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle required.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out detailed inspections of housing stock to diagnose building defects.
  • Manage and oversee repairs and improvement projects.
  • Prepare specifications, tender documentation, and cost estimates.
  • Liaise with residents and contractors for service delivery.
  • Monitor contractor performance and adherence to health & safety regulations.

About the Role

We're working in partnership with a leading housing provider to recruit an experienced Building Surveyor to join their property team, covering North London and the surrounding areas.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a professional surveyor who thrives in a varied role-combining technical surveying expertise with a customer-focused approach to asset management and maintenance in the social housing sector.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a broad range of surveying services including planned maintenance, reactive repairs, disrepair inspections, voids, and project management of refurbishment works.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out detailed inspections of housing stock to diagnose building defects, prepare reports, and recommend remedial works.

  • Manage and oversee repairs, planned maintenance, and improvement projects from inception through to completion.

  • Prepare specifications, tender documentation, and cost estimates in line with company standards and compliance requirements.

  • Liaise with residents, contractors, and internal teams to ensure high-quality service delivery and customer satisfaction.

  • Monitor contractor performance, quality of work, and adherence to health & safety regulations.

  • Undertake condition surveys and contribute to asset management planning and lifecycle costing.

  • Support the delivery of capital investment programmes and sustainability initiatives.

About You
  • Qualified to degree level in Building Surveying or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

  • MRICS or MCIOB accreditation desirable (or working towards).

  • Proven experience in building surveying within the social housing or public sector environment.

  • Strong knowledge of building pathology, construction methods, and current legislation.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a proactive, solution-focused approach.

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle required.
