About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Structural Construction Administrator (CA) to join our Kanata Structural team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that structural designs are properly implemented during construction and that projects are delivered in accordance with contract documents, codes, schedules, and quality expectations.
The successful candidate will act as a key liaison between the design team, contractors, and clients, providing technical oversight and professional judgment throughout the construction phase.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Administration & Site Services
- Provide structural construction administration services in accordance with project requirements and firm standards
- Conduct regular site reviews to verify compliance with structural drawings, specifications, and applicable codes
- Prepare site review reports, deficiency lists, and follow-up documentation
- Review and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) related to structural scope
- Review shop drawings, product data, and submittals for general conformance with design intent
- Review and comment on structural change requests, field instructions, and site instructions
- Assist with substantial performance and final inspections
Technical & Professional Support
- Interpret structural drawings, details, and specifications during construction
- Provide technical guidance to contractors and clients on constructability and sequencing issues
- Identify non-conforming work and recommend corrective actions
- Support engineers of record with construction-phase technical input
- Assist with preparation of letters, memos, and formal correspondence
Client & Contractor Coordination
- Act as a professional point of contact with clients, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ)
- Participate in site meetings, progress meetings, and coordination meetings
- Communicate issues clearly, diplomatically, and in a timely manner
- Support positive, collaborative relationships on site while protecting design intent and professional obligations
- Monitor construction progress from a structural perspective
- Identify potential risks, delays, or constructability concerns early
- Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and traceable
- Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- 7–4-7 years of experience in structural construction administration or site services
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering, or related field
- Strong experience with building structures (concrete, steel, wood)
- Extensive reinforcing rebar review and large-scale concrete structures
- Solid understanding of:
- Construction practices and sequencing
- Contract documents and drawings
- Canadian building codes and standards
- Experience working with consulting engineering firms
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Preferred / Assets
- P.Eng. or C.E.T. designation (or working toward one, an asset)
- Experience with institutional, commercial, industrial, or multi-residential projects
- Familiarity with Ontario construction practices and regulations
- Experience working on active construction sites with multiple stakeholders
