About You / What We Are Looking For: The City of Coquitlam is currently seeking a motivated Building Maintenance Worker to join our Facilities team. With an emphasis on strong customer service and the efficient diagnosis of issues, this role is responsible for ensuring the operation of heating, water and ventilating equipment and other related systems in Municipal buildings. This position will additionally perform routine repair, building maintenance, custodial work and service duties. The incumbent will exercise sound judgement and possess the ability to work independently in their day-to-day activities and tasks. Major maintenance, repairs or expenditures outside service contract arrangements will be referred to a superior.

Types of tasks include, but are not limited to: painting, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance and janitorial work. Our next Building Maintenance Worker will have the ability to pre-emptively identify potential problems and work to resolve them. To be successful, they must also be able to prepare and maintain reports and records related to the work, as well as possess skill in the use and care of tools and machinery related to the work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building maintenance and servicing work, as well as working knowledge of the functions and operations of heating, ventilating and hot water equipment and systems.
  • Completed some technical courses such as Power Engineering or related courses at a vocational institute, plus some related experience in building maintenance operation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritizing tasks and responding effectively to urgent maintenance issues.
  • A driver’s license for the Province of BC with satisfactory driving record is also required.
  • An understanding of building envelope and construction practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a municipal or public sector environment would be considered an asset.
  • Experience performing maintenance in multi-use facilities would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a related field (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, building envelope) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) such as Maximo or equivalent would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with workplace safety practices and WHMIS would be considered an asset.
  • Confined space or lockout/tagout training would be considered an asset.

What We Offer: This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $29.87 - $35.05. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
