Job description

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to join the team. The ideal candidate has experience working in a public accounting environment and the ability to manage multiple client engagements at once. The bookkeeper is responsible for undertaking various tasks to complete the full accounting cycle of a file. This includes preparing the financial statements, reconciliation of accounts, performing appropriate payroll calculations, and assisting with personal and corporate tax returns.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Recording transactions in appropriate accounting software (QuickBooks or CaseWare)
  • Preparing adjusting journal entries
  • Preparing monthly bank reconciliations
  • Calculating source deductions and prepare monthly payroll
  • Reconciling inter-company accounts
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements from QuickBooks upon clients requests
  • Analyzing general ledgers to investigate any discrepancies
  • Preparing and filing HST returns
  • Preparing and filing T4, T5, EHT and WSIB
  • Calculating depreciation income tax accruals and reconcile inter-company accounts
  • Understand technical standards, with the expected level of assistance and supervision
  • Effectively work with CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) to resolve various tax issues on behalf of clients
  • Work directly with clients on bookkeeping matters and respond effectively to client requests
  • Recognize relevant financial statement issues from basic analysis and provide appropriate recommendations to managers and clients
  • Other duties, as required
Summary of Experience
  • 3+ years of full cycle bookkeeping experience
  • Experience in preparing HST and payroll filings
  • Experience in preparing T1 and T2 tax returns is preferred
  • Experience in preparing bookkeeping for stock trading investment accounts is an asset
  • Experience in preparing Notice of Reader and working papers using CaseWare is an asset
Requirements:
  • Must be proficient in using QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of tax programs (Tax Prep or Cantax) is preferred
  • Working knowledge of CaseWare/Jazz-it is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Strong ability to pay attention to details
  • Strong ability to handle multi-tasks in a fast-paced working environment
