The Opportunity:

The Biochemist serves as the driving force of production doing biochemical analysis, tissue culturing and molecular biological testing. They are the primary generators of test results for our clients. The Biochemist is responsible for analyzing and interpreting data from experiments and supporting testing and documentation in a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Perform laboratory analysis including biochemical assay testing, extractions of biological molecules (such as RNA, DNA and proteins), cell-based assays, bioanalysis of oligos, polysaccharides, fatty acid, PCR, real time PCR and digital PCR
  • Method development, method transfer, method verification and method validation.
  • Perform routine testing and document as per SOPs, GMP/GLPs and regulatory guidelines
  • Support R&D projects for large molecule analysis
  • Perform routine bench and instrument analysis
  • Support other laboratory tests as trained and assigned

Job Requirements

Education/Certifications/Experience

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry
  • 3+ years of practical work experience in a laboratory environment

Knowledge

  • Demonstrated understanding of molecular biology and biochemical analysis for large molecules
  • Background in health and safety regarding laboratory tests

Instrumentation

  • Operate general analytical instruments such as PCR, UV Spec and Absorbance Plate Reader
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite

Skills/Competencies

  • Able to think of the big picture and forecast potential problems or roadblocks in projects
  • Excellent interpersonal communication to be able to coordinate with the other implementation teams
  • Ability to work both in a team environment or independently
  • Problem solving and logic skills for analytical analysis and testing
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to complete daily tasks
  • Ability to learn and perform the new technologies, instruments and analytical tests as needed

  • Laboratory environment requiring the ability to walk short distances and alternate between standing and sitting while performing lab-specific tasks
  • Laboratory environment requiring the use of personal protective equipment as individuals will be working with hazardous materials
  • Some work may require moving and lifting items up to 50 lbs
