Job summary

A support service company in Peel Region is looking for a Behavior Support Specialist to implement skills acquisition programs focused on personal care and social skills. The role involves assisting residents with daily living and administering medication. Ideal candidates will have a relevant diploma or degree and possess strong communication skills. They should be energetic, self-motivated, and able to work on a rotating schedule. Crisis intervention training and experience with complex behaviors are assets.

Qualifications

  • Available to work a rotating schedule.
  • Experience working with individuals with complex behaviors is an asset.
  • Understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis is an asset.
  • Current First-Aid and CPR certification needed.

  • Model appropriate behavior and provide feedback.
  • Assist residents in daily living activities.

  • Complete daily documentation and ensure safety of residents.

About the job Behavior Support Specialist

Behavior support specialists assist in the implementation of skills acquisition programs that are focused on the teaching of adaptive skills (i.e., personal care and hygiene, academics, social skills, etc.). These services, delivered continuously throughout the day, may take place in one of our programs or out in the community, and encompass activities related to all aspects of daily living.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Implements facility-wide behavioral programs, as well as individualized behavioral protocols, skill acquisition programs, and completing the necessary documentation.
  • Models appropriate behavior, and provides positive reinforcement and corrective feedback daily.
  • Assists residents in Activities of Daily Living. This includes bathing, transfers, toileting and physical assistance, and assisting and participating in physical, vocational, and recreational activities.
  • Administers resident's medication programs.
  • Interacts with residents family and visitors the and on home visits.
  • Completes all daily needed documentation (i.e. behavioral data, shift summaries, house charts, checklists, medication administration records, and incident reports) including filing in client binders.
  • Ensure the safety of all residents and co-workers by ensuring a safe environment, following all safety protocols, and implementing the required physical and mechanical interventions.
  • Attends crisis intervention and other training, as required.
  • Works with individuals of all ages.
  • Computer skills.
Qualifications
  • College Diploma or a University Degree (Autism & Behavioral Sciences, Developmental Services, Human Services, Police Foundations, Psychology, Criminology, and other disciplines will be considered)
  • Energetic and self-motivated; willing to learn and apply new knowledge
  • Available to work a rotating schedule
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team
  • Good communication skills verbal and written
  • Experience working with individuals with complex behaviors (asset)
  • Understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (asset)
  • Current First-Aid and CPR certification
  • Candidates must have a valid drivers license and a good driving
  • Crisis Intervention training and Registered Behavior Technician training is preferred.
