Overview

Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) serves approximately 65,000 students in 123 schools, as well as alternative and continuing education sites. WRDSB is committed to creating learning environments that support the achievement and well-being of all students through partnering with staff, parents, families, caregivers and communities to promote success in learning and life. The Board is currently seeking applications for Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) employees in the WRDSB Before and After School program.

The B.A.S.S. employees will work alongside a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) to support play-based programming for students in junior kindergarten to grade 6, providing general student supervision and support as part of the extended day program.

Responsibilities
  • Follow the guidance of the DECE operating the extended day classroom.
  • Support positive and responsive interactions among children, parents, child care providers and staff; encourage children to interact and communicate in a positive way and support their ability to self-regulate.
  • Support children’s exploration, play and inquiry; support child-initiated and adult-supported experiences.
  • Support positive learning environments and experiences that are inclusive of all children, including those with individualized plans.
  • Support indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest and quiet time, and accommodate individual needs of children in care.
  • Foster engagement and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children.
  • Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act.
  • Foster an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, respected, and supported.
  • Support health, safety, nutrition and well-being of the children; supervise and support children to stay healthy and safe by following Public Health, First Aid and Emergency procedures.
Mandatory Educational and Experience Requirements
  • Hold a minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent level of educational attainment.
  • Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner.
  • Condition of Employment for Extended Day B.A.S.S. Ratio Employees: Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED OR willingness to obtain this training as a condition of employment.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) that is current within 5 years if currently employed with the WRDSB;; Satisfactory PVSC that is current within 6 months for new employees.
  • Must complete the Licensed child care staff record requirements, including Region of Waterloo Public Health, Health Assessment applications and supporting documentation stating qualifications and experience, and proof of Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED included in your portfolio.

  • Notes: The Successful Candidate must provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check including the Vulnerable Sector, prior to commencement of employment. The Board does not cover costs for the Criminal Reference Check. SIN, date of birth, and proof of educational qualifications are required at the time of an offer of employment.
