Job summary

A leading mining company is seeking an Automation Technician Apprentice for its Macassa Mine in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. The role involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems. Candidates should have post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering Technology and experience with PLC and HMI systems. This position requires a strong commitment to safety and teamwork, as well as the ability to work independently in dynamic environments. A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered.

YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will be part of the Maintenance Department. You will also ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Install, terminate, and test instrumentation, fiber optics, and communication cabling;
  • Read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics, P&IDs, blueprints, and technical drawings;
  • Conduct preventative and predictive maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems, documenting findings and corrective actions;
  • Troubleshoot and repair;
  • PLC and HMI systems;
  • VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives);
  • Low and medium voltage electrical systems;
  • Update and maintain as-built documentation for all electrical and control system modifications;
  • Maintain and calibrate process instrumentation (e.g., pressure, flow, temperature, level sensors);
  • Assist in commissioning and start-up of new equipment and systems;
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Post‑secondary education in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, Automation, or related field.
  • Experience with PLC and HMI systems;
  • Proficient in using electrical test equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, signal generators, loop calibrators);
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings;
  • Solid understanding of industrial control systems, including analog/digital signals and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP);
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills;
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities;
  • Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment;
  • Physically fit and able to work in underground or industrial environments, including confined spaces and elevated areas;
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work various shifts, including weekends or on‑call rotations.

Schedule: 7/7 work schedule, at our Macassa Mine in Kirkland Lake, ON.

In accordance with applicable legislation, the expected compensation includes base salary and potential bonus opportunity. Your individual pay will reflect your skills and experience while remaining competitive within the local market.
