Job description
What is the opportunity?

This role provides AI risk governance support and insights that enables efficient and effective execution of AI risk strategy and initiatives while maintaining RBC’s desired risk profile. It also supports the design and implementation of RBC’s AI risk governance framework aligned with related frameworks and policies, and supports oversight of the portfolio of internal policies and external regulations in relation to AI.

What will you do?
  • AI strategic direction and oversight: Support the evolution and leveraging of the responsible AI principles, risk management objectives, and risk management principles to ensure appropriate reflection in policies and procedures; provide advice and insights to business leaders while performing effective challenge on AI initiatives and risks; lead and coordinate AI regulatory oversight and management with GRM partners
  • AI Risk strategy execution: Drive awareness of, including supporting the activation and embedding of, new ownership, roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities across business lines/functions in relation to AI; aid the implementation of, and then maintain, the RBC AI risk governance framework aligned with related frameworks and policies; support the execution of AI risk strategy (aligning governance and risk frameworks) and lead relevant components as assigned; support and inform enterprise AI strategy; provide risk support to ADT / AI initiative risk navigators and business leads as required including tracking initiative status and resolving common challenges
  • 1st and 2nd line of defense for AI: Identify, assess and mitigate risks during AI design, deployment, and operations; support development of guidelines for the implementation of 1st line of defense on AI; assess AI-related risks, provide oversight and challenge, and monitor compliance with internal policies and external regulations while establishing the guidelines for the implementation of 2nd line of defense on AI
  • Reporting and measurement: Support development and implementation of mechanism for identifying and tracking AI initiatives; develop and generate AI related reporting, including initiative status, key risk indicators, etc.
  • ESG Risk governance: Support ESG risk governance activities as required and where skills and expertise can be leveraged
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
  • 5+ years of experience in risk management, operations, and/or technology environments with the ability to align and think holistically about governance and risk while considering broader business needs and AI strategies
  • AI/ML Knowledge: Awareness of AI/ML technologies and associated risks
  • Risk Management Experience: Background and experience in risk management concepts, Operational Risk, Model Risk Management and/or Technology Risk in regulated environments
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to communicate and collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders and navigate a matrixed environment
  • Leadership / Soft Skills: Have a collaborative mind‑set, ability to lead without authority, good verbal and written communications, analytical and critical thinking skills
Nice-to-have
  • Experience working in dynamic environments and leading project teams
  • Governance and Policy Design: Ability to design and implement frameworks that balance innovation with control. Proven experience with enterprise‑wide projects.
  • Regulatory Fluency: Familiarity with evolving global AI regulatory landscapes
