Assistant Professor, General Management – Limited Term (Three-year)

About the Faculty

The Faculty of Business, Communications Studies and Aviation has a student body of approximately 4000 students and is composed of the Bissett School of Business, the School of Communication Studies, and an Aviation program. The Bissett School of Business hosts four departments: General Management & Human Resources, Accounting & Finance, International Business & Supply Chain Management, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. The Bissett School of Business is an accredited member of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).

About The BBA, General Management

The Department offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in General Management and Human Resources. The BBA in General Management helps students understand the “big picture” in a variety of business sectors and build an academic foundation for careers in human resources. Core courses include Human Resources, Marketing, Global Business Environment, Business Communication, Operations Management, Business Law, Organizational Behaviour, and Strategic Management.

The Role

The Department of General Management and Human Resources at Mount Royal University invites applications for a three-year, limited-term faculty position in the area of general management at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 15, 2026. The successful candidate will teach courses aligned with their expertise, including General Management core classes: Management Principles and Practices, Business Communication, Organizational Behaviour, and Strategic Management. The candidate may also have the opportunity to teach a departmental elective course or develop and deliver a special topic course in General Management in the future. Applicants are encouraged to highlight their qualifications and interests in each applicable subject area.

This 3-year, limited-term appointment is offered on MRU’s teaching/service pattern (TS) focused on teaching and service rather than research. The successful candidate will be expected to teach eight 3-credit hour courses per academic year and participate in various service roles. Class sizes average 35-40 students per section.

Responsibilities
  • Instruction: prepare materials for course delivery including course outlines, resources, readings, activities, lessons, assessments, and learning management systems; support and respond to students outside of scheduled class time; deliver assigned courses; and
  • Administration: administer final exams, input final grades upon course completion, and participate in course-related meetings as required; and
  • Service: may include coaching student competition teams, mentoring student clubs, assisting with curriculum development, and serving on departmental or university committees; and
  • Community: actively liaise with industry partners or professional associations on behalf of the Bissett School of Business.
Qualifications
  • PhD or DBA in Management (or closely related discipline) is preferred. A combination of a Master’s degree and substantial industry experience in management may also be considered;
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level and the ability to teach a range of courses within General Management;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development in equity, diversity, and inclusion and experience ensuring an accessible and inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population;
  • Experience with curriculum development is an asset;
  • Professional or industry engagement experience is an asset;
  • Preference given to candidates with Indigenous Relations experience and established connections to Indigenous communities, including students.
