Job description
Overview

The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto invites applications for up to two full-time tenure stream appointments in the Accounting Area. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Accounting or a cognate discipline with a focus on Accounting (e.g., economics) by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing strengths.

Responsibilities
  • Pursue innovative and independent research at the highest level, establish an outstanding, independent research program, and publish articles in internationally recognized top-tier and field-relevant journals in the field of accounting and/or cognate disciplines.
  • Demonstrate excellence in research evidenced by the job-market paper, additional research papers or publications, a research statement, and strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.
  • Attend and present at significant conferences; pursue activities that contribute to recognition through awards and presentations at other highly ranked universities.
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching, including the ability to integrate theory and practice; effective communication and presentation skills; willingness to supervise graduate students; and mastery of the subject area. Evidence includes teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier, letters of reference, and performance during on-campus seminars for shortlisted candidates.
  • Possess the ability to teach accounting data analytics.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Accounting or cognate discipline with focus on Accounting by time of appointment or shortly thereafter.
  • Evidence of research excellence as described above, including job-market paper and additional publications; strong letters of reference.
  • Proven teaching excellence with ability to integrate theory and practice; strong communication and presentation skills; willingness to supervise graduate students.
  • Teaching excellence evidenced by a teaching dossier, sample course materials, teaching evaluations, or equivalent evidence; ability to teach accounting data analytics.
