Job Summary: The Assistant Manager, Capital Projects is accountable to the Manager, Capital Projects to assist with the implementation of approved capital projects as assigned, and for overseeing the planning, design and construction of CNC’s main and regional campus projects. The Assistant Manager will liaise with consultants, contractors, staff and stakeholders of the College to deliver capitally funded projects at all campuses. This includes, but is not limited to, successful planning, organising, managing and administering of projects, work plans, and other tasks as assigned. In discharging this overall accountability, the incumbent will operate collaboratively with the Facilities Services Team and Regional Campus Administration, in the areas of project development and management. This position is part of a Facilities Services Management Team responsible for providing a physical environment of a superior quality to students, staff and all stakeholders of CNC.

Specific Duties
- Assists with project planning, budgeting, procurement and management as required.
- Assists in defining project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
- The Assistant Manager will assume the responsibilities of other Facilities Services Administrators when required.
- Instructs and trains staff in the areas of project management as required.
- Performs risk management to minimise project risks.
- Assists in predicting resources needed to reach objectives, and manages resources effectively and efficiently for project delivery.
- Co‑ordinates work as required for all of the Capital Team.
- Participates on staff selection committees or other college committees as required.
- Provides advice and guidance on procedures for capital project delivery.
- Ensures all staff and contractors work is in adherence to prescribed safety standards, codes and regulations.
- Assists with the day‑to‑day management of staff, including scheduling, work assignments, performance review and collective agreement administration.
- Assists in the preparation and administration of budgets.
- Provides project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress.
- Indoor and outdoor environment with contact to internal and external stakeholders and construction related activities. Travel to the regions and other overnight travel is required. Flexible hours required resulting in long days as needed.
- May be called into the College at any time in an emergency situation.
Skills & Qualifications
- Technologist diploma with 5 years’ experience in project management. Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
- At least three years’ applicable experience, including direct supervision of staff in a unionised environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and construction specifications.
- Strong knowledge in project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices.
- Experience managing projects through the full life cycle.
- Knowledge of standard software programs such as Microsoft Office programs with CAD experience being an asset.
- Knowledge of codes, regulations and standards pertaining to buildings.
- Must have and maintain a minimum Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- May be required to undergo and pass a police record check and be bondable.
