Job description
Overview

BCIT’s Interior Design Department is recruiting for temporary, part-time Teaching Assistants to support delivery of Flexible Learning courses in the Interior Design, Flexible Learning Programs. Temporary, part-time Teaching Assistant positions are filled on a term-by-term basis. For program information, view the Interior Design web pages: https://www.bcit.ca/programs/interior-design/

Flexible Learning runs three terms in twelve-week blocks: September to December, January to March, April to June, and a summer term from July to August.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attend all classes (online or in classroom)
  • Demonstrate cooperation with the course instructor inside and outside of the classroom
  • Assist instructors during class time
  • Assist students during class time
  • Assist in evaluation of student performance, including marking exams, quizzes and assignments (during and between classes)
  • Meet with course instructor as required to determine marking criteria
Qualifications
  • Relevant diploma or degree in Interior Design
  • Minimum three years of related current experience, with practical knowledge and experience in the residential (kitchen & bath) design field
  • NKBA membership eligibility and Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer (AKBA) Certification an asset
  • Hands-on experience with Chief Architect would be an asset
  • Hands-on AutoCAD experience would be an asset
  • Hands-on experience with Photoshop, InDesign and SketchUp would be an asset
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work within, and develop, a collegial environment
  • Previous teaching, mentoring or informal training experience would be an asset
  • Flexible availability

Note: Teaching assistants are paid 3 hours per week per course. Additional marking time may be required outside of class.

Salary

Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
