Position Summary

The Casual Assistant Information Technology Generalist works in partnership with the full time IT Generalist and RODS' outsourced IT provider to support the efficient day-to-day operation of computer systems and applications in a secure environment. The Casual Assistant IT Generalist provides deskside assistance and technology, training and procurement support to management and other staff and keeps up-to-date inventory and documentation of RODS hardware, software, IT resources/licenses, and security roles. The Casual Assistant IT Generalist also decommissions old technology hardware.

Qualifications/Requirements

This individual must possess a basic knowledge of IT environments, IT security, computer trouble‑shooting, relational databases, and procurement. They must also be comfortable learning new applications and processes. They will have a strong ability to communicate and work well in a both team and autonomous settings with little supervision while working for the greater good of the organization and clients.

  • Certificate in IT from recognized institution;
  • 2 to 3 years' experience working with various technologies and basic troubleshooting;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all Microsoft Office Applications;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of customer services principles and practices;
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask in a dynamic environment;
  • Clean Police Record check/Clean Vulnerable Sector check.

  • Knowledge of operating systems, computer hardware, relational databases and commercial software applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

The efficient day-to-day operation of RODS' culturally diverse organization is maintained through a collaborative approach with the Executive Director, managers and staff through consensus based decision making. The Casual Assistant Information Technology Generalist's responsibilities will include:

Monitor and maintain technology to ensure maximum efficiency:

  • Troubleshooting basic technology issues and applications;
  • Maintaining log and/or list of required repairs and maintenance;
  • Installing and configuring computer applications and hardware;
  • Dealing with password issues;
  • Staying current with system information and updates;
  • Rapidly establishing a good working relationship with co-workers and other professionals (ie. IT technicians);
  • Forwarding high-level IT issues to RODS' outsourced IT provider.

Monitor and maintain IT security to ensure maximum security:

  • Providing training to RODS staff of RODS' Privacy Policy & Security Guidelines;
  • Scanning other agencies' IT security policies and suggest improvements to RODS' safety and security policies and procedures;
  • Conducting internal audits of compliance to RODS' Privacy Policy & Security and Safety Guidelines;
  • Monitoring IT security reports and follow-up on concerns;
  • Maintaining IT security logs.
General technological support:
  • Creating and maintaining current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software and resources;
  • Writing instructional manuals of computer applications, as needed;
  • Providing individual training and support of applications on request;
  • Providing orientation to new users of existing technology and applications;
  • Researching current and potential resources and services, and making recommendations;
  • Training staff about potential uses of existing technology and applications;
  • Costing and procuring RODS hardware/software/licenses and cell/smartphones;
  • Supporting Central Administration & Finance Manager on large IT projects.
  • Assists in the decommissioning old technology hardware.

Other duties, as requested by manager.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with extensive employee and public contact and frequent interruptions. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and transport objects such as CPUs/printers/etc.

Total hours available is 220 hours.

Hours of work: Casual Monday to Friday, anytime between 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a one‑hour unpaid lunch break. Commencing January 5th, 2026 ending March 31, 2026. The closing date is December 19, 2025.
