Area Manager, Maintenance & Production

Hawkesbury, Ontario

Position type: Permanent - Full-time On-site

Summary

The incumbent in this position is responsible for planning, overseeing and optimizing all maintenance and production activities within the plant. This role manages technical teams (mechanics, grinder operators, subcontractors), coordinates maintenance work and ensures the optimal operation of equipment. The person in this role actively contributes to continuous improvement, timely production delivery and overall operational performance.

Responsibilities
Maintenance
  • Manage capital investment (CAPEX) projects related to equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance, manage maintenance budgets and ensure accurate technical documentation.
  • Develop and implement preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance programs and tools.
  • Coordinate technical interventions and supervise maintenance and repair work.
  • Set priorities with the Production teams and plan major shutdowns.
  • Ensure all internal and contracted work is performed in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Effectively use digital tools (JDE, ADP, etc.) for resource planning and management.
Production
  • Supervise daily production operations.
  • Plan daily tasks for both production and maintenance personnel.
  • Manage production priorities according to internal customer requests.
  • Work closely with the engineering department.
  • Train and support staff on procedures, tools and continuous improvement initiatives (OPEX, 5S, TPM, etc.).
  • Monitor production performance (quality, timelines, costs) and propose corrective actions as needed.
  • Support human resources related activities: task assignments, disciplinary follow‑up, time approval (ADP/JDE), etc.
Qualifications
  • Degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role within industrial maintenance and/or production.
  • Strong planning, team management and problem‑solving skills.
  • Bilingual (French/English), spoken and written.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical and industrial electrical systems.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork and ability to perform under pressure.
  • Familiarity with management software (e.g., JDE, ADP) and Lean/OPEX principles.
