What You’ll Do

As our next Apprentice Carpenter, you’ll report to our Lead Hand Carpenters and Site Supervisors and play a hands-on role supporting the Construction Team across all phases of residential renovations and custom home builds—from demolition and framing to exterior finishes. Your day-to-day may include:

  • Taking direction from the Lead Hand, Site Supervisor, and Construction Manager.
  • Assisting with demolition, site prep, cleanup, salvaging materials, and maintaining a hazard-free work zone.
  • Loading and unloading materials, tools, and equipment, and distributing them according to plans or specs.
  • Helping frame foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using a variety of materials including wood, steel, and composites.
  • Supporting the installation of doors, windows, hardware, trim, and other finishing components.
  • Erecting and dismantling scaffolding, ladders, and concrete forms; mixing and pouring concrete when needed.
  • Operating or tending equipment like pumps, compressors, generators, and portable cement mixers.
  • Measuring, cutting, and shaping materials using hand and power tools, ensuring precision and quality.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and sketches to support layout and construction tasks.
  • Working alongside sub-trades to meet project goals and timelines.
  • Participating in safety practices, including daily hazard assessments and weekly toolbox meetings.
  • Upholding all Ackard standards, procedures, and building codes on every project.

This role is a great fit for someone eager to build technical skills, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to high-quality residential projects in a supportive and values-driven environment.

  • Have a solid understanding of tools and their proper use.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Analyze situations and make informed decisions.
  • Plan and organize tasks efficiently.

  • Frequently required to lift, carry, or move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting of items up to 75 lbs with assistance.
  • Regular tasks include standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and handling construction tools and materials.
