Overview

Animal Care Attendant, Surgery Department — Scarborough, ON

Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital is a busy emergency and referral hospital that is currently looking for an Animal Care Attendant to join its active surgery department. This full-time opportunity includes a range of responsibilities which directly contribute to the efficient and effective daily operations of the hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with surgery and anesthesia: surgical assistance for induction, prep and in surgery, radiographs, setting up and cleaning ORs, and maintaining stock. The surgical ACA is responsible for equipment cleaning, packing and repair, autoclaving, gas sterilizing.
  • Patient care (walking, feeding, assisting the RVTs with restraint for procedures)
  • Excellent customer service skills; a real aptitude for putting pets and pet parents at ease and creating a welcoming environment
  • General housekeeping duties; pet holding areas, surgical suites/treatment areas and common areas
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality
  • The ability to follow written and verbal directions and execute tasks with the highest quality and attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team while remaining composed in emergency situations
  • Willingness to learn and take on additional duties as needed
