Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) serves approximately 65,000 students in 123 schools and offers Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) programs.

Job Overview

Support play‑based programming for students from junior kindergarten to grade 6. Work alongside a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) to provide general supervision and promote a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Follow the guidance of the DECE operating the extended‑day classroom.
  • Support positive and responsive interactions among children, parents, caregivers, and staff.
  • Encourage children to interact, communicate and self‑regulate.
  • Support children’s exploration, play, and inquiry.
  • Facilitate child‑initiated and adult‑supported learning experiences.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive learning environment for all children, including those with individualized plans.
  • Support indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest, and quiet time, adjusting to individual child needs.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about the program and their children.
  • Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act.
  • Promote an anti‑oppressive, anti‑racist, inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, and respected.
  • Ensure the health, safety, nutrition, and well‑being of the children.
  • Supervise children to keep them safe, following Public Health, First Aid, and Emergency procedures.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent level of education.
  • Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner.
  • Valid First Aid with CPR Level C/AED certificate or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). New employees must have a VSC issued within the last six months.
