Job summary

A regional health authority in Manitoba is seeking an advanced care paramedic. The ideal candidate will have a graduate certificate from an accredited program and hold certifications such as BLS and ACLS. Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview
Experience
  • 3 years of full time or equivalent experience providing pre-hospital care at the primary care paramedic level (minimum) is required.
  • A combination of related experience is preferred, including:
    • Working with individuals from diverse cultural, social and ethnic backgrounds, such as supporting Indigenous (First Nations, Metis and/or Inuit) peoples.
    • Working in patient relations and/or in a customer service capacity.
    • Use of Shared Health ERS and Digital Health technology, software applications, and equipment.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate of an advanced care paramedic program held by an accredited Canadian education institution, or a College of Paramedics of Manitoba approved equivalent.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Certificate of Practice with the College of Paramedics of Manitoba and is a member in good standing at the Advanced Care Paramedic level (minimum).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), level C or equivalent from an accredited training provider.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from an accredited training provider.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from an accredited training provider.
  • The following are considered assets:
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from an accredited training provider.
    • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) from an accredited training provider.
    • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) from an accredited training provider.
    • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) from a certified training provider.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Demonstrates and encourages others to follow the principles of the LEADS framework: lead self; engage others; achieve results; develop coalitions; and participate in system transformation.
  • Competence in both official languages (French/English) is essential for designated bilingual positions.
  • Competence in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions and values is preferred.
  • Competence in multiple additional languages (to English) is an asset.
Physical Requirements
  • Must provide a Physical Fitness Assessment by an approved fitness assessment provider.
  • Travel by multiple vehicle types, including where inclement weather conditions are anticipated, and navigation of the general risks of responding to a variety of ERS calls are required.
  • Infrequent exposure to a variety of high stress, physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding situations, and potential for exposure to communicable disease.
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort required, including frequent lifting of patients and equipment (80+ lbs/36.3+ kg).
  • Must have a valid Class 4 Manitoba driver’s license (at a minimum) and use of a personal motor vehicle for travel within the zone and province as required.
