Job description

Are you willing to question the status quo, and advocate for creative solutions to ensure that an individual’s choices are respected?

Why KACL?

Since 1960, KACL has promoted inclusion and social justice in our community. We are a not-for-profit, charitable organization made up of some of the most compassionate, caring, and hardworking people you’ll ever meet.

We are the third largest employer in Kenora, and our goal is to become the employer of choice by focusing on safety, courtesy, teamwork, and service excellence.

APSWs work with adults living with developmental disabilities to live as independently, safely, and securely as possible in their community. An APSW ensures that the individual’s support plan addresses the holistic nature of each person’s life and is focused on their dreams, desires, and aspirations. Support is provided in alignment with KACL values, vision, and mission, and creates conditions where people feel safe, empowered to make their own choices, experience a sense of belonging, and have opportunities to thrive.

You Are:
  • Passionate About People: You love connecting with people from all walks of life. You work to understand the hardship of others and are curious and empathetic in your venture to build trust and understanding.
  • Open Minded: You’re able to support people to explore choices and consequences and be there to provide support, advocacy, and encouragement.
  • Creative: You think outside of the box and find unique ways to conquer challenges.
  • A Team Player: You work well independently but you also understand that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. You gel well with others and know when to reach out to your team.
  • Resilient: You are fueled by your own impact. You celebrate small wins and practice self care to manage difficult days. You encourage others to do the same.
You Will:
  • Be part of a team that provides services to people living in Kenora, Red Lake, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Ignace, and the surrounding areas, including northern communities.
  • Interact directly with adults living with developmental disabilities and/or their families to help them access and maintain services and support to enhance their lives.
  • Advocate to ensure the rights of adults with developmental disabilities are respected.
  • Advocate for the appropriate role of KACL in cross sector interactions and meetings.
  • Provide skills assessment, planning, communication, education, resource management and service coordination.
  • Push yourself to gain knowledge, to always be learning, and to become your most authentic self.
You’ll Love:
  • Being part of a progressive organization that makes a real difference in our community.
  • A positive, fun, professional team that needs and values your gifts and talents.
  • Great medical, dental, vision, and disability coverage, and our pension plan.
  • Opportunities for personal and professional growth, and exploration of your gifts.

$77,376 - $77,376 a year
