Duties And Responsibilities

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Admission Services, and the Senior Admissions Officer, the Admissions Officer decides upon the admissibility of undergraduate applicants, their entry, and eligibility for transfer credits. The incumbent represents the Office of Admissions at various Faculty Committee meetings, remains conversant with university policy, and provides admissions advice to students, educators, counselors, faculty, and various outside organizations. In addition, the incumbent contributes to the development of admissions policies and procedures, researches information regarding admission requirements for senior high school and post‑secondary courses offered in Canada and international systems of education, and determines the required courses and/or diplomas and degrees for specific degree programs and prepares worksheets and charts. The Admissions Officer responds to individual information requests, participates in on‑campus liaison programs for prospective students, and performs other admissions duties as required.

  • In‑depth knowledge of national and international education systems
  • Broad knowledge of University academic programs, structure, and admissions

  • Experience providing advising to students/clients with tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to multi‑task, coordinate and execute projects/activities efficiently and effectively
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and interpretive skills
  • Must be able to write clear concise text.
  • Strong computer skills - specific experience with common software packages/applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, listservs, Access, PowerPoint), and the ability to keep up with and adapt to changing technology.
  • Knowledge of the Banner software program or other student information system an asset
Education And Experience
  • Honours undergraduate degree.
  • Six years of relevant administrative work, preferably in an academic setting.
