The School Based Administrative Assistant shall provide the required administrative support to the school in all aspects of its day to day operations. A School Based Administrative Assistant works in a team-based environment and displays a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy in dealing with the general public, students, staff, volunteers and outside agencies. Consistent with Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and Halifax Regional Centre for Education policies, the Administrative Assistant will work within an established accountability framework to ensure maximum results are achieved in delivering support services to schools. Working collaboratively within the school, the Administrative Assistant reports directly to the School Principal.
School Based Administrative Assistants are members of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union, Local 53 (NSGEU). The NSGEU collective agreement can be accessed by request.

This is a 10-month per year position with a work schedule in accordance with the school year calendar which includes time off at Christmas and March Break. Permanent Administrative Assistants (10-month) remain at the same site annually and are placed on layoff when school is not in session for the months of July and August (unpaid period).
Administrative Assistants working a full 7-hour day are entitled to an unpaid lunch break of at least one-half (1/2) hour and up to one (1) hour to be scheduled in consultation with the immediate supervisor.
In accordance with Article 21.03 (b) of the NSGEU Collective Agreement the start date of the position may vary from the date listed above should the successful applicant be a bargaining unit employee.
