Job description

We offer a position that involves a highly diverse range of responsibilities including final reviewing, managing projects, mentoring/guiding analyst staff, providing technical support on complex client projects and related actuarial issues and exposure to retirement plans.

The Role:

As an Actuary with the Retirement practice, you will play an integral role in the delivery of a broad and diverse range of defined benefit actuarial services to multiemployer, public sector, and single employer clients. Key accountabilities include:

  • Reviewing valuation reports and actuarial projects using advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills to ensure high quality client deliverables;
  • Providing constructive feedback on a timely basis to others;
  • Applying an understanding of complex actuarial concepts, methods and applications; plan mergers, wind‑ups, annuity buy‑outs, stochastic projections, etc.;
  • Providing technical guidance to and mentoring junior colleagues;
  • Presenting at client meetings and providing guidance on complex issues; and
  • Participating on special projects designed to address emerging and/or unique retirement issues posed by client organizations.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • ASA credentials;
  • minimum of 8 years of pension actuarial experience to include working in an employee benefits consulting environment;
  • knowledge of funding rules across Canada;
  • Proficient with FASB and IAS19;
  • strong project management and communication (verbal/written) skills with ability to interact effectively with a diverse and audience;
  • ability to translate complex concepts into terms that others can understand; and
  • experience with Multiemployer and Public Sector defined benefit plans a plus.
