Overview

The Accuracy Control Technician is responsible for ensuring the dimensional precision of structural and outfitting systems throughout all stages of new construction and repair projects at Seaspan Shipyards. This position plays a vital role in maintaining alignment with engineering specifications, class rules, and shipyard standards by applying advanced metrology and accuracy control techniques.

Note : Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. There will also be occasional weeks based in our Delta facility at 1010 Derwent Way, Delta.

This is a 2-Year Limited Term Employment with eligible benefits and 3 weeks' vacation each year.

What you\'ll do
  • Execute dimensional control inspections of structural and outfit systems at all stages of construction.
  • Perform layout verification, part alignment, and pre-installation checks using survey instruments such as: Total Stations, laser trackers, laser Scanners.
  • Analyze measurement data using software such as Spatial Analyzer to detect deviations and propose corrective actions.
  • Conduct pre-fit and final fit inspections to ensure critical interfaces and tolerances are met.
  • Collaborate with trades and supervisors to embed accuracy control best practices into daily operations.
  • Participate in formal dimensional inspections with regulatory authorities and customers.
  • Maintain and organize accuracy control records, inspection reports, and measurement data.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for accuracy control processes.
  • Provide feedback on design and construction methods to reduce misalignment and improve build efficiency.
What you\'ll bring
  • Diploma or degree in Geomatics, Marine, Mechanical, or Naval Architecture, or equivalent surveying / metrology background.
  • 3–5 years of dimensional control or accuracy control experience in shipbuilding, aerospace, or other heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Proficient with metrology tools and surveying techniques for large-scale fabrication and assembly.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding processes and structural / mechanical alignment requirements.
  • Familiarity with class rules and tolerance standards (., ISO, ASTM, ABS, Lloyd’s).
  • Advanced skills with survey instruments: Total Station, Laser Tracker, Laser Scanner, Gyrotheodolite.
  • Strong working knowledge of Spatial Analyzer or equivalent 3D metrology software.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, 3D models, and tolerance specifications.
  • Understanding of fabrication sequencing and the impact of dimensional variation.
  • Strong analytical skills to process and interpret complex measurement data.
  • Detail-oriented with strong technical reporting and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple inspections in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear communicator who can explain dimensional findings to trades and engineers alike.
  • Competence with digital tools: AutoCAD, Rhino, MS Office, SharePoint, Visio.

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600 - $103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience, as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
