Job Title: Risk Control Specialist - Engineered Property

We are seeking an independent contributor recognized as a Risk Control expert aligned with the Engineered Property line of business. The role involves contributing to the success of the Energy, Real Estate & Complex Property segments through risk control services. The candidate will work independently and collaboratively, handling technical complexities and coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assess high hazard complex risks, providing risk control expertise and conveying exposures and loss estimates to underwriting.
  2. Serve as the Risk Control single point of contact for assigned accounts within Engineered Property.
  3. Conduct physical risk surveys and produce comprehensive risk assessment reports with loss scenario estimates.
  4. Develop account-level desktop risk reports using various data sources.
  5. Collaborate with business lines to develop strategies that improve loss ratios, achieve new business goals, and retain accounts.
  6. Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners to enhance CNA’s market presence.
  7. Support organizational learning by sharing technical expertise and guiding the team’s development.
  8. Coordinate with Claims for technical guidance and loss mitigation strategies.
  9. Work effectively with underwriting teams in a fast-paced environment.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Senior-level technical knowledge of insurance, risk management principles, and practices.
  • Proven success managing large, high hazard, high-profile accounts.
  • Expertise in property risk assessment, fire protection, and fire science.
  • Ability to evaluate natural hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of hazards in various sectors, including power, utilities, renewable energy, and industrial occupancies.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, decision-making, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Resourcefulness in handling challenging situations.
  • Proactive approach aligned with long-term business goals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software.
  • Willingness to travel, including overnight stays.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science preferred; advanced degrees or licenses are assets.
  • Professional designations such as P.Eng, CFPS, FE/EIT, CRM are preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of risk control experience.
