Job description

Wildstone Construction is seeking a motivated 3rd or 4th year Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Apprentice to join our growing service and installation team. This role contributes to commercial and light industrial projects and is ideal for an apprentice with strong installation and piping experience who’s looking to continue building their skills while progressing toward Red Seal certification.

You bring strong mechanical aptitude and a troubleshooting mindset, paired with a keen attention to detail. You have a solid grasp of mechanical, electrical, and control schematics, as well as piping drawings, and can confidently apply that knowledge in the field. Physically capable and safety-focused, you’re able to perform all aspects of the role, including lifting, working at heights, operating in confined spaces, and working in varying weather conditions.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Assist journeypersons with the installation, piping, start-up, and commissioning of refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including RTUs, split systems, heat pumps, condensers, and evaporators.
  • Participate in the layout, fabrication, and installation of refrigerant and condensate piping (copper, steel, PVC), including cutting, bending, threading, hanging, brazing, pressure testing, evacuation, and charging under supervision.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and service tasks, such as coil cleaning, filter changes, belt inspections, lubrication, and basic electrical and control checks.
  • Safely handle refrigerants, tools, and test instruments (gauges, multimeters, probes) in accordance with regulations, manufacturer requirements, and company procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, organized work environment, follow OH&S and company safety policies, and participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and general HVAC/R support tasks.

We value flexibility, so you’ll also be ready to take on other tasks as needed.

What You Bring to the Team
  • Registered 3rd or 4th year Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic apprentice (or equivalent provincial designation) in good standing.
  • 3+ years of hands-on HVAC/R experience, with exposure to commercial or light industrial installation and service work.
  • Technical proficiency with refrigeration piping, brazing, nitrogen purging, leak testing, and system cleanliness practices.
  • Sound knowledge of refrigeration theory, basic electrical and control systems, and air distribution from completed technical training.
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving abstract, and ability to travel to various job sites.
