Overview

Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the 2nd Class Engineer will support the operation and maintenance of the power plant at our Dundas, Ontario facility. This role primarily involves covering for existing engineers during absences and vacations within our 1st Class Power Plant. When not fulfilling relief duties, the 2nd Class Engineer will be assigned to the Maintenance Team to support ongoing maintenance activities.

Schedule

12 hour rotating shifts, in 7/24-hour operation (during Power plant coverage). 40 hr. / week for all other time.

Responsibilities
  • Must hold current valid Ontario 2nd Class operating engineer's certificate
  • Responsible for assisting maintenance colleagues with general maintenance and repair of the facility
  • Ensure current and future departmental compliance with all standards, including the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, CFIA, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining, enhancing, developing and compliance with the HACCP plan, GMPs, SOPs and procedures within the department, and when overlapping with other departments and business units
  • Experience in a rendering or food manufacturing environment is a definite asset but not required
  • Post-secondary education and/or University Degree in Engineering, Agriculture, Science, or related field considered an asset
  • Experience with boilers, water treatment equipment and other related equipment
  • Idle candidate will have extensive knowledge in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process flow diagrams
  • Experience in operation of air quality control system preferred
  • Maintenance of boilers, water, steam distribution system and air quality control system
  • Mechanical aptitude with above average troubleshooting skills is required
  • Comfortable working 12 hour rotating shifts
  • Reliable, punctual and self-motivated with ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Comfortable working overtime when and if required
  • Must be a team player
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the AODA, ESA, OHSA and other federal, and provincial standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the AODA, ESA, OHSA and other federal, and provincial standards
  • Must be able to work comfortably and safely in elevated areas and confined spaces
  • Must be able to climb up to 6 flights of metal stairs safely
  • Must be able to climb standard ladders
