STATUS: Permanent, Full Time

LOCATION: Home Office Based. Candidates must live in Central Region, Ontario (Includes Peel, Halton, Dufferin, York and Durham Region), maintain a private and safe workspace, and have high-quality internet connection.

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours/week

CLASSIFICATION: Grade 7

The hiring range for this position ranges from $76,503 to $90,848, with the opportunity to grow within the broader salary range of $76,503 to $114,155 as you advance in your role. (Eligible for 4% Vacation Pay)

Reporting to the Manager, Consulting Services, the Health & Safety Consultant, Occupational Hygiene role is responsible for servicing external and internal clients by providing general occupational health & safety as well as occupational hygiene consulting and training services virtually and in person. The Consultant works within a team to ensure annual goals and objectives associated with the WSPS Strategy are accomplished. The core accountability for the role is ensuring high quality services are provided to clients, on time and within budget, resulting in high client satisfaction in the assigned territory.

The core accountability of the Health & Safety Consultant, Occupational Hygiene is to deliver high quality solutions and services. The goal of improving overall health and enhancing productivity, quality and morale in the workplace they will work with the team to enhance the quality and consistency of current services and solutions across the province and ensure WSPS stays current and relevant to workplaces by channeling industry and evidence-based research into new services and solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Note: Percentages refer to approximate % of time spent on each area, over the course of a given year.

  • Deliver services to clients that facilitate a reduction and mitigation of risk for workplace injury and illness through the: hazard identification, qualitative and quantitative risk assessment, and recommendations for improving tools, equipment, layout materials, environment, work practices, organizational factors and other processes.
  • Assess client needs and works diplomatically within political framework of unionized and non -unionized workplaces. Liaise with various stakeholders (e.g. MLTSD, senior management, supervisors, workers, staff) to assist clients in complying with relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation, standards and best practices.
  • Execute solution delivery to client as per scope and term outlined in the agreement/ contract. In collaboration with Account Management, follow up regularly with clients to ensure ongoing service satisfaction.
  • Ensures the successful planning, implementation and delivery of high-quality client solutions through collaboration with Consulting Services Manager, AM/or SAM, and Specialty Practice colleagues to scope contracts, review client plans, prepare RFPs, participation in WSPS Document Review process, solution development/review.
  • Provides virtual and on-site public training and workshops to clients in areas such as general Health & Safety, Occupational Hygiene, CSA standards, speaking at conferences, etc.
  • Conducts worker personal chemical exposure assessments, personal noise exposure assessments and related occupational hygiene services from scoping, equipment calibration, data collection, data analysis and report writing.
  • Promotes the benefits of implementing health and safety initiatives while working at client sites, actively looking for opportunities to expand the service offering to the client.
  • Utilizes established internal delivery processes to support the client with the implementation of health and safety solutions based on client business needs and existing organizational processes and structure.
  • Proactively responds to client information requests promptly and accurately, acting as a resource or gateway for information and service.
  • Support projects that require specialized knowledge and experience to ensure all elements that support revenue protocols which include proposal, quoting, risk assessment and contracting.
  • Collaborates with others to develop and deliver training, workshops and conference presentations to clients in specialty as well as other focus areas.

RELATIONSHIP-BUILDING (10%)

  • Nurtures, develops and maintains relationships with assigned clients while delivering services
  • Promotes WSPS at key events/speaking engagements and trade shows and effectively serves as a brand ambassador in the market.
  • Meets regularly with the Manager, Account Manager/or Senior Account Manager to review client plans and ensures successful planning, implementation and delivery of seamless high-quality solutions
  • Follows up regularly with clients to ensure ongoing satisfaction.
  • Consults internally with staff, providing current health & safety expertise and advice on WSPS solution offerings, including products, services and programs.

INTERNAL TRANSITION, SUPPORT AND ADMINISTRATION (20%)

  • Maintains records of all activities on the Client Relationship Management (CRM) system on a regular basis and submits reports as required. Utilizes internal processes and tools regularly including: CRM, ESS, Microsoft outlook calendar, Business Portal, etc.
  • In collaboration with Account Management, ensure client information is maintained through entries in CRM and other business systems as required.
  • Executes delivery of client solutions as per agreement/contract.
  • Identifies and flags potential project risks and proactively identifies solutions to mitigate risks
  • Leverages internal resources such as Technical Consulting team and hygiene peers to provide client service as needed.
  • Prepares consulting reports in accordance with internal standards, processes, procedures and expertise development plans.
  • Completes Quality Assurance/Document Review of consulting reports in accordance with internal standards, processes and procedures.
  • Supports the development of programs, solutions, products and services.
  • Provides input to current and future Development plans in collaboration with other Consultants
  • Provides instruction, demonstration or coaching support as assigned.
  • Conveys any identified, potential project risks and possible mitigation strategies to the Consulting Services Manager or Senior Consultant as appropriate.
  • Responds to internal and external inquiries to meet organizational service standards
  • Provides input on continuous improvement of WSPS� services.
  • Keeps abreast of H&S knowledge and best practices related to the sectors and industries we serve. Communicates potential new opportunities including new products and services for clients, to the manager.
  • Supports other duties, as assigned.

Skills and Experience

Minimum:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline from a Community College and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3-5 years related industry experience
  • Experience in workplace hazards (air, noise, chemicals, dust, etc.) in manufacturing setting
  • Experience in assessments and report writing
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements, including provincial and federal legislation
  • Knowledge of Adult learning principles
  • Facilitation/Instruction skills in various settings and levels of employees/management
  • Ability to work in a team environment/collaboration
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Applications

Preferred:

  • Degree in Health and Safety with specific education and training in occupational hygiene and environmental health
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the field of Health & Safety
  • CRSP, CIH or ROH designation or working toward designation

Additional Requirements:

  • Lives in Central Region, Ontario (Includes Peel, Halton, Dufferin, Toronto, York and Durham Region), maintain a private and safe workspace, and have a high-quality internet connection.
  • Business level auto insurance coverage
  • Access to a vehicle that meets minimum MTO safety standards
  • An all-employee meeting (Staff Days or equivalent) will be organized annually. All employees are required to attend the annual meeting in person. Occasional team meetings may be required in person.
  • External meetings with stakeholders such as the Ministry will continue and those employees who attend as part of their role will continue to do so, in the meeting format preferred by the stakeholder.
