SCOPE

Spend your summer creating positive recreation experiences for children and youth! Join the Community & Recreation Services division and be part of a dynamic, fast‑paced team dedicated to delivering fun, active, and safe programs for children and youth. Our goal is to help participants develop new skills, make friends, and enjoy unforgettable summer experiences. As a HIGH FIVE® registered organization, the City of Surrey is committed to ensuring every child in our programs has a positive and meaningful recreation experience. Our Summer Day Camps take place in a variety of settings, including recreation centres, schools, community halls, arenas, pools, and parks.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS

Union – CUPE Local 402 – Auxiliary
Non‑Union – Casual Instructor

RESPONSIBILITIES

Junior Day Camp Leaders (Community Services Assistant 1) are responsible for providing day camp participants with an active, safe, and stimulating environment to develop social skills and general well‑being.

Senior Day Camp Leaders (Community Services Assistant 2) are responsible for designing and implementing day camp programs for children and youth, in addition to the responsibilities of a Junior Day Camp Leader.

Specialty Day Camp Leaders (Non‑Union) are responsible for the design and implementation of day camp programs for children and youth. Experience in specific skills, such as sports, dance, swimming, skating, etc., is an asset for our camps that run in a recreation setting.

QUALIFICATIONS
Junior Day Camp Leaders (Community Services Assistant 1)
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C with AED certificate (current certifications or willing to be obtained by February 28 2026).
  • Completion of Grade 10 supplemented by relevant experience in community service work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience working with children or youth is an asset.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, volunteers, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to swim and skate are considered assets.
Senior Day Camp Leaders (Community Services Assistant 2)
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C with AED certificate (current certifications or willing to be obtained by February 28 2026).
  • Completion of Grade 10 supplemented by relevant experience in community service work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Previous experience working with children is considered an asset.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, volunteers, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to swim and skate are considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to guide and support others effectively.
Non‑Union Specialty Camp Instructors
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C with AED certificate (current certifications or willing to be obtained by February 28 2026).
  • Completion of Grade 10 supplemented by relevant experience in community service work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Previous experience working with children is considered an asset.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, volunteers, staff, and the public.
  • Experience in specialized instructional skill in visual arts or performing arts.
  • Experience teaching sports, language, science, or cooking.
OTHER INFORMATION

Pay Rate: Schedule D
Hourly Rate: Community Services Assistant 1 — $21.24 (2024 rate)
Community Services Assistant 2 — $23.85 (2024 rate)
Non‑Union Instructor — $18.88 – $27.69 (job code dependent)
