Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Manager to lead and oversee complex mainframe initiatives, ensuring successful project delivery and seamless integration with business operations. This role requires deep technical expertise in IBM Mainframe environments combined with strong project management, stakeholder engagement, risk management, and cost optimization capabilities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, the ability to drive change, and a track record of delivering large-scale mainframe projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end mainframe projects by defining scope, developing detailed project plans, setting timelines, and managing resources.
- Provide technical leadership across IBM Mainframe technologies, including z/OS, AS400, JCL, COBOL, and REXX.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and end users.
- Conduct risk assessments, identify potential issues, and develop mitigation and contingency plans.
- Manage project budgets, track expenses, and optimize costs while maintaining delivery quality.
- Guide and mentor project and technical teams, fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Oversee project execution to ensure alignment with approved plans, milestones, and timelines.
- Ensure clear and consistent communication, proactively managing stakeholder expectations and concerns.
- Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure delivery against agreed SLAs and milestones.
- Assess and manage the impact of mainframe migrations on existing systems, processes, and workflows.
- Drive continuous improvement through process optimization and effective change management practices.
Mandatory Skills & Qualifications
- Mainframe Technologies: Advanced proficiency in z/OS and AS400 environments.
- Programming & Scripting: Strong working knowledge of COBOL, JCL, REXX, and SAS.
- Project Management: PMP certification with hands-on experience managing large-scale, complex projects.
- Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to engage, influence, and manage senior business and technical stakeholders.
- Risk & Vendor Management: Strong experience in risk assessment, mitigation planning, and vendor collaboration.
- Change Management: Demonstrated ability to lead change initiatives and drive process improvements.
- Team Leadership: Strong people management skills with experience leading and motivating technical teams.
- ITIL: Solid understanding of IT service management best practices.
