Lead Data Scientist – “AI for Healthcare” Data Science team, São Paulo, Brazil.

Overview

The IQVIA "AI for Healthcare" team is one of the leading healthcare analytical teams in the world, focusing on complex medical data and innovative machine‑learning solutions. This role offers the opportunity to work with large‑scale datasets in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop novel healthcare ML solutions on large‑scale medical data.
• Translate predictive models into production‑grade solutions, delivering patient‑level alerts to healthcare providers worldwide.
• Collaborate with Data Science teams in the UK, India, and US to coordinate development and handovers to engineering teams.
• Play a key role in ETL processes for cohort and feature creation, ensuring unbiased methodology.
• Communicate technical concepts and analytical outputs to diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and propose workflow improvements.
• Research machine‑learning techniques to enhance the team’s offerings.

Qualifications

• PhD in a technical or scientific domain, or MSc with at least two years’ experience in a technical/consulting environment involving machine learning.
• Strong knowledge of supervised machine learning methods (regularised regression, ensemble tree‑based models such as XGBoost, deep learning).
• Proficient in Python and software engineering practices (OOP, TDD, CI/CD, Docker, MLOps). Experience with large collaborative code bases.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver complex projects, manage deadlines, and communicate effectively.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to present technical concepts clearly.
• Proactive, innovative, and pragmatic problem‑solver.
• Track record of collaboration across cross‑functional global teams.

Bonus

• Interest in long‑term team management.
• Experience in an informatics/data science role within a healthcare organisation.
• PySpark/big‑data experience.
• Experience writing your own software packages/tools.
• Knowledge of epidemiology/biostatistics and related analytical issues.
