Procurement Engineer Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled Procurement Engineer to bridge commercial purchasing with technical evaluation. This role ensures that procured mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation components meet engineering specifications, cost targets, and project requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience reading engineering drawings and technical specifications, as well as working with ERP systems. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with both technical (engineering) and commercial (suppliers, finance) stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and qualify suppliers for technical materials, engineered components, and sub-systems.
  • Review engineering drawings, BOMs, schematics, and specifications to ensure correct material and component selection.
  • Evaluate supplier technical capability, manufacturability, quality standards, and compliance.
  • Conduct proposal evaluations using both commercial and technical criteria.
  • Issue RFQs, manage bid analysis, and negotiate pricing, terms, warranties, and delivery.
  • Place purchase orders and manage changes, expediting, documentation, and delivery schedules.
  • Track goods receipts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor supplier performance and drive corrective actions when quality, cost, or schedule issues arise.
  • Support supplier scorecards and performance review cycles.
  • Conduct due diligence and qualification for new suppliers.
  • Work closely with Engineering to clarify specifications and interpret drawings.
  • Interface with Operations, Project Management, and Quality for procurement planning and risk mitigation.
  • Provide procurement inputs for proposals, costing, and project plans.
  • Support cost-reduction, standardization, and value-engineering initiatives.
  • Contribute to internal process improvement projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean certification preferred.
  • 3–7 years of combined procurement, sourcing, engineering, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing or technical environment.
  • Experience working with international sourcing and global supplier management is an asset.
  • Knowledge of supply chain best practices, sourcing strategies, and commercial purchasing processes.
  • Familiarity with quality control standards and regulatory requirements in manufacturing.
