A 3D generalist is a multi-talented professional capable of managing various facets of the 3D production process, including modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging, animation, rendering, and compositing. They embody versatility, adaptability, and creativity, making them well-suited for diverse projects and genres.

The Quest
- Concept interpretation: Translate 2D concepts and references into high-quality 3D models or sculpts with fidelity to the original design while adding necessary details to achieve leveling, style and craftsmanship with minimal direction.
- High poly modeling and sculpting: Use industry-standard software to create detailed models that tell a story and meet artistic and technical requirements for the project.
- Low poly and mid poly creation: Create game-ready versions with optimized topology, efficient UVs, and meeting technical requirements.
- Textures creation: Use Photoshop and Substance Painter to create high-quality texture maps that accurately represent materials and align with project style.
- Rigging and animation support: Collaborate with animators and riggers to prepare models for animation, providing clean topology and rig-friendly meshes, and help integrate animations into the game engine.
- Optimization and performance: Optimize assets for performance and memory usage, implementing LODs and other techniques.
- Asset integration: Export assets and integrate them in a game engine.
- Efficient time management: Work efficiently to meet phase timelines and delivery dates.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with other artists to solve problems and communicate about quality, technical, or delivery issues.
- Punctuality: Present progress daily and/or when requested, and assist in meetings as needed.
The Skills
- Strong polygonal modeling skills with clean, efficient, well-integrated and leveled models that meet project requirements.
- Understanding of technical foundations to manage assets for memory and performance considerations.
- Strong artistic sensibilities related to color theory, composition, scale, design, shape language, and craft basics, with understanding of proportions and industrial design.
- PBR workflow and efficient/organized texture creation, with understanding of physically based workflows to achieve believable assets and story.
- Familiarity with game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine.
- High degree of self-direction while being a team player with strong verbal and written communication, and openness to feedback.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and proactive approach to technical and artistic challenges in 3D asset creation.
- Strong knowledge of pipelines, workflows and asset exporting processes.
- Quick learner of new processes and software as needed.
- 3–5 years of experience in the video game industry and at least 3 credited games.
