This role requires a candidate passionate about all aspects of life in Abu Dhabi, with a flair for creative writing, and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced city.
As the UAE’s first magazine, What’s On is the go-to brand for exploring life in the Emirates.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable covering all facets of UAE life, from major events and gigs to community news.
Extensive experience in writing for both print and online audiences is essential, along with the ability to steer the creative direction of a monthly magazine from planning through to production. Skills in managing social media accounts and creating videos are also required.
The candidate must produce accurate, error-free content under tight deadlines, with solid experience in commissioning and sub-editing. The Deputy Editor will collaborate with the Group Editor to develop and implement the brand’s print, online, and social media strategies, and oversee commercial projects. Acting as a brand guardian, they will set and monitor content quality and tone, and represent What’s On Abu Dhabi at events.
A journalistic instinct to identify engaging, original content that appeals to both online and print audiences, and that is visually compelling, is crucial. The candidate should be self-motivated, a team player, with at least three years of relevant experience, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
The Deputy Editor will work with the wider team to optimize print and digital concepts, collaborate with the sales team to drive growth, and manage some budget planning, ensuring all content complies with legal standards.
Experience with Google Analytics and Parse.ly is advantageous. Knowledge of the region is preferred but not essential. The successful candidate will be based in Abu Dhabi and must travel weekly to our Dubai Media City HQ.
