Job Summary

The Heart Vascular and Thoracic Institute at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is inviting applications for a consultant position in the Heart Failure, Cardiac Transplant, and Mechanical Circulatory Assist section. The role integrates into a high-functioning multidisciplinary heart failure section—the only program providing cardiothoracic transplantation and LVAD insertion in the United Arab Emirates. The position seeks a passionate early to mid-career physician with exceptional clinical skills and a strong background of independent academic performance to help develop the program nationally, regionally, and internationally, with additional teaching responsibilities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and potential advancement to section, department, and institutional leadership.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor and provide care to patients at CCAD within the Heart, Vascular, and Thoracic Institute.
  • Prescribe or administer medication, therapy, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Perform specific treatments and/or procedures to treat patient medical conditions.
  • Evaluate patients and record applicable notes about their condition for documentation and referral purposes.
  • Liaise with other medical and non‑medical staff at CCAD to ensure quality patient treatment.
  • Provide culturally appropriate and sensitive care.
  • Adhere to individual approved clinical privileges and all policies and procedures of the Medical Staff.
Leadership Responsibilities
  • Help develop a strategic plan for the Heart Failure/Cardiac Transplantation section.
  • Create a vision and support section members in pursuing excellence in patient care, education, and research.
  • Recommend space, medical technology, equipment, staffing, and other resources needed and maintain processes to respond to shortages.
  • Recommend and monitor outside service sources related to heart failure/retention.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of practice at CCAD and recommend methods ensuring economical use of equipment, supplies, and pharmaceuticals without compromising treatment quality.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of patient care within the section.
  • Ensure the section provides appropriate clinical outcomes data and physician‑level performance metrics for objective evaluation.
  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement from clinical and administrative perspectives and work toward meeting or exceeding standards.
Human Resources Management Responsibilities
  • Perform annual professional reviews for staff.
  • Monitor and ensure high‑quality education and research programs.
Experience Requirements
  • For physicians from Tier 1 countries, not less than four years additional experience post‑qualification.
  • Must hold a valid license/registration to practice in home country or last country of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team of health‑care professionals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff.
  • Proficient in speaking and writing in English.
Education Requirements

MD, MBBS, MBChB or DO (specialization obtained from American Board of Medical Specialties or a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certificate) or equivalent qualification from an accredited institution, with completion of specialty qualification as per the Recognized Specialty Certificate table listed in Healthcare Professionals Qualification Requirements.
