Job description

Valiant is seeking skilled Linguists to provide interpretation, transcription, and translation services in support of ongoing and new U.S. operations and mission requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct accurate and consecutive translation, transcription, and interpretation in Somali into English.
• Translate various syntax and expressions, including colloquial and slang phrases, from English to Somali and vice versa.
• Work and travel in austere environments.
• Provide cultural and ethnic insights related to statements, conversations, situations, and documents.
• Scan, research, and analyze foreign language documents accurately.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Proficiency in Somali and English speaking and writing at Level 3/3 of Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR); native proficiency preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of Somali culture with previous regional experience; native familiarity preferred.
• Experience interpreting and translating Somali into English.
• Ability to understand all speech in standard dialect with minimal need for paraphrasing or explanation.
• Familiarity with local culture and customs, with the ability to operate within the local populace.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Clearance Required: TS/SCI.

Additional requirements:

• Possession of or eligibility for the required Personnel Security Clearance (PSC).
• Medical and dental examinations to certify fitness for duty, and vaccination according to area requirements.
• Sufficient unaided hearing to perform duties safely; SPRINT or equivalent testing if necessary.
• Ability to work under stress and meet short deadlines.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• No medical restrictions that hinder duty performance or PPE use.
• Capability to work in extreme environmental conditions.
• Availability for irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Proper lifting techniques and PPE usage.
• Ability to stand, stoop, crawl, and climb as needed.
