Job Summary

The Shop Assistant is responsible for maintaining high store and back‑of‑house standards while supporting daily retail operations. The role includes stock handling, replenishment, pricing, merchandising, and supporting the selling floor, as well as preparing fresh produce by cutting fruits and vegetables in accordance with food safety and hygiene standards. The Shop Assistant ensures cleanliness, safety, and excellent customer service in line with brand guidelines.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support stock control, receiving, dispatching, and replenishment activities.
  • Maintain a well‑organized and tidy back store and shop floor at all times.
  • Stock shelves on the shop floor and in the back store following brand standards.
  • Accurately attach price tags to all merchandise.
  • Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) principles for stock rotation.
  • Prepare fresh produce by washing, cutting, and packaging fruits and vegetables in accordance with food safety, hygiene, and quality standards.
  • Use appropriate tools, gloves, hairnets, and protective equipment when handling food items.
  • Assist with merchandising, repacking products, and preparing gift hampers as required.
  • Ensure accurate inventory tracking and report discrepancies to the supervisor.
  • Minimize material wastage and maintain inventory of supporting materials.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, including food preparation areas, back store, and shop floor.
  • Support store safety and security, remaining vigilant against loss or theft.
  • Stay informed about promotions and assist in setting up product displays.
  • Assist customers on the selling floor by answering queries, locating products, and providing product guidance.
  • Deliver a high standard of customer service to ensure a positive shopping experience.
  • Work collaboratively with the sales team and support different departments as required.
  • Comply with grooming, hygiene, and safety standards at all times.
Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of experience in a retail or food‑handling environment.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of basic food safety and hygiene practices is an advantage.
  • Physically fit and able to stand for long periods and handle stock lifting.
  • Confident, customer‑focused, and professional in appearance.
