About the Role

We’re hiring Senior / Staff-level Java Engineers who love building performant backend systems that run 24 / 7 and power millions in crypto and fiat transactions. You'll be joining the core backend team that underpins every Quidax product — from deposits and swaps to merchant payments and our API rails. It’s a high-trust, high-impact role for engineers who want to do the best work of their careers.

What You’ll Be Owning

Build & Scale Core Services

First 30 days : Understand our architecture and take ownership of one core service (deposits, swaps, or settlements)

By month 3 : Lead improvements that reduce latency or improve reliability across one critical flow

By month 6 : Design and implement a new microservice (or refactor an existing one) that handles high-volume traffic across fiat and crypto rails

Articulate a long term vision for maintaining and scaling our backend systems and the teams running them.

Solve for Performance, Reliability & Observability

By month 2 : Contribute to platform observability initiatives

By Q1 2026 : Drive cross-team initiative to scale platform performance across all critical user flows

Collaborate with Product & Engineering Teams

Actively lead and participate in architecture reviews, sprint planning, and retros

Pair with frontend, mobile, and devops engineers to solve cross-functional challenges

Support junior engineers via reviews, mentoring, and documentation

Biggest Challenges You’ll Tackle

Here’s what will keep you up at night, but you will want to get it solved like yesterday

Architect and develop distributed systems

Provide technical structure to teams and work closely with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps

Manage individual projects priorities, deadlines and deliverables with your technical expertise

Write high quality, well tested code to meet the needs of your customers

Shipping often while keeping a high bar for quality and security

What We’re Looking For

You write clean code. You sweat the small stuff when it matters. You obsess over system design. And you care about impact.

8+ years in software engineering, primarily working with Java 8+ & SpringBoot in production

Experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact

Experience writing and maintaining highly scalable and performant code

Strong grasp of system design, microservices architecture, and distributed systems

Proficiency in relational databases (MySQL)

Bonus if you’ve worked in fintech, crypto exchanges, or high-availability systems

Nice-to-haves :

Familiarity with blockchain integrations or custody wallets

Experience working in a remote startup environment

Contributions to open-source projects or technical writing

Reporting Line

You’ll report to the Engineering Manager. You’ll jam regularly with senior engineers, product managers, and mobile / frontend teammates to build the backbone of our infrastructure.
