Job Purpose
To lead technical and techno-economic analyses and design aspects for Masdar PV (Photovoltaic) projects. As part of an integrated project team to prepare and agree on project specifications, budgets and timescales with contractors, clients or other stakeholders and to define basic design and create or review test procedures for PV plant components such as foundations, PV modules and converters.
Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-screening and technical feasibility studies of PV projects including identification of technical risk; perform concept design works and propose optimized plant layouts.
- Manage on-site solar resource assessment with ground measurement, including procurement and installation processes.
- Carry out studies and optimize plant configuration for PV projects.
- Perform solar resource and energy yield assessment and data analysis using state-of-the-art modelling tools (PV System).
- Procure and supervise geotechnical, topographical and other relevant studies for PV projects.
- Procure technical advisors during the bidding stage.
- Provide technical requirements for all RFPs for EPC, O&M and plant components.
- Participate in contract negotiation regarding technical aspects with EPC, O&M and main equipment.
- Recommend technology or infrastructure changes to improve project performance, reduce operational costs or comply with regulations.
- Provide technical support to the delivery team to ensure the project is constructed and commissioned per contractual requirements in terms of scope, quality and timing.
- Provide technical support to the asset‑management team as needed during the asset life‑cycle.
- Review monthly and annual reports from existing PV projects.
- Maintain regular contact with PV-related institutions and industry forums.
- Develop and keep Masdar’s PV power knowledge database up to date.
- Build and maintain a network of relevant contacts to support daily activities and long‑term objectives of the team.
- Engage with and monitor relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure adequate knowledge transfer and completion of services per agreed parameters.
- Apply consistent approaches and standardized forms in line with relevant policies, processes and procedures.
- Prepare relevant reports and updates as required to the desired standard.
- Provide management information as and when required by the line manager, including timely and accurate reporting per schedule.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy or related field.
- Chartered Engineer status (e.g. IET, EUR Ing, PEng) is an asset.
- Project Management certification (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2) is an asset.
Preferred Experience
8‑10 years of experience in the PV industry (preferably with an EPC contractor engineering firm or technical consultant) or equivalent experience.
Job‑Specific Skills
- Knowledge of PV market players and PV components.
- Experienced user of PV Systems and basic knowledge of AutoCAD.
- CSP technology knowledge and/or experience would be desirable.
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to work in a dynamic, fast‑paced, diverse environment.
- Ability to prioritize actions and work within a diverse team.
- Project management skills and planning and organizing skills.
