Job description

Secondary Alternative Pathways Teacher

We are looking for a qualified Secondary Alternative Pathways Teacher to join our established team at GEMS Education, in Dubai, starting from January 2026.

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated educator who is committed to delivering high-quality teaching and learning within a dynamic and forward-thinking international school environment.

The successful candidate will bring strong subject knowledge, creativity in the classroom, and a genuine enthusiasm for inspiring students to develop a lifelong interest in Alternative Pathways.

Core Responsibilities
  • Liaise with Head of Inclusion on Alternative Pathway curriculum development and timetabling.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Inclusion on any future developments for the Alternative Pathway at the school.
  • Liaise with specialist subject teachers on modification of the curriculum for mainstream lessons.
  • Update and oversee IASEND assessment tracker for Alternative Pathway.
  • Liaise with HOI and specialist subject teachers on Alternative Pathway reporting systems.
  • Collaborate with Learning Support Assistants (LSA’s) and Learning Support case managers on the design and management of ASDAN’s and Alternative Pathway resources.
  • Internally moderate ASDAN student files for certification.
  • Lead professional development training sessions on ASDAN for 1:1 Learning Support Assistants.
  • Lead on the delivery of ASDAN tasks and assignments.
  • Coordinate and work closely with the Dubai ASDAN coordinator and the International Development coordinator to ensure effective integration, review and moderation of ASDAN.
  • Keep up to date with national and international developments in ASDAN curriculum.
Skills

The ideal candidate should have a strong track record in effective teaching and helping students succeed. While experience in teaching the IB Middle Years and Diploma programmes is preferred, outstanding teachers from any curriculum background are encouraged to apply. A genuine passion for working in a non-selective and culturally diverse community is also a key requirement. Additionally, the candidate should possess:

Key Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Education degree, or an initial degree plus a relevant teaching qualification such as a PGCE, PGDE or equivalent specialism in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Inclusion or relevant field.
  • A minimum of 3 years varied and demonstrable experience working with SEN students or within Inclusion within a similar role.
  • Full-time professionally certified Alternative Pathways teacher.
  • Teaching and/or Administration experience (minimum 5 years preferred).
  • Strong public relations and positive, collaborative demeanor, alongside a robust work ethic and willingness to contribute to the general welfare of the total school programme.
  • Advanced qualifications are preferred but not essential.
  • A strong desire to continually improve their practice and deliver outstanding teaching and learning experiences for their students.
  • August 2026 availability.
