Job summary

A leading energy company in Abu Dhabi is seeking an HSE and Sustainability Officer to support projects in compliance with standards and regulations. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of experience in HSE and sustainability, strong communication skills in English, and familiarity with the Middle East. Job description
Context & Environment

Position is based in Dubai office (United Arab Emirates) with potential site visits on projects and assets, when necessary, in the Middle East and Africa regions.

Responsibilities
  • Report to MEA HSE Manager and E&S counterparts in head office in France (weekly highlights, regular team meetings)
  • Participate to Headquarter HSE and E&S coordination meetings when required
  • Participate in the REN Sustainable Officer Network, providing relevant stories and feedback, monitoring the implementation of the HUB\' Sustainability action plan and promoting the implementation of the Company\' 5 Levers program in the MEA HUB

Ensure E&S support to projects (BD / PD) during development phase:

  • Ensure Projects are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, Company\'s E&S standards, policies and commitments, and international standards (IFC, EBRD, ADB) when necessary
  • Contribute to E&S risks assessments / screenings / CORISK for internal approval processes (internal committees)
  • Conduct ESDD (Due Diligence) on existing E&S documents made available by Developers or business partners to ensure compliance with applicable E&S standards
  • Supervise the development of E&S studies (ESIA / ESMP, SEP, RAP, BAP) by defining technical scope of work and performing bidders, evaluating consultant proposals, quality control and review of the deliverables provided in accordance with defined budget and timeline
  • Engaging with external stakeholders (authorities, lenders, civil society) during site visits and meetings until the obtention of permits

Ensure implementation of E&S requirements during construction and operation phases :

  • Before operation : preparing E&S requirements (HSE Annex) for Contractors, ensuring available E&S studies outcomes and main requirements are well considered in the EPC contract, involving during EPC selection process on E&S topics
  • Review and approve main management plans provided by Contractors : ESMP, Waste, Water, grievance mechanism, others
  • During operation : Monitor regularly and control good implementation of all mitigation measures (avoid-reduce-compensate) by Contractors and Sub-contractors, in collaboration with TE staff on site
  • Conduct E&S site inspections where necessary, support local staff during Lender technical advisor audits
  • Ensure the proper implementation of OneMaestro principles (deliverables and monitoring) on E&S topics
  • Reporting : Gather and consolidate annual Company reporting (projects and assets) including environmental KPIs, social actions and grievances. The E&S Regional Coordinator will ensure the proper communication of data in Harpe and Agora tools
Candidate Profile
  • Diploma : HSE and risk management, environmental and social, sustainability.
  • Professional Experience : at least 3 years in one of the previously mentioned domains
  • Behaviour : capacité d\'apprentissage et motivation personnelle, bonnes aptitudes à la communication, la supervision et à la coordination, souci du détail et de la précision, capacité à travailler dans un environnement multiculturel, curiosité, adaptabilité et flexibilité ;
  • Skills : English mandatory (spoken, written), practice of French and Arabic languages and knowledge of Middle East area would be appreciated.
  • Necessary first experience with the implementation of Equator principles and international standards.
  • Ability to work in a team and managing several studies and projects simultaneously.
