Overview
Must be able to follow instructions in cooking and delivering well-prepared meals. Experience in using various ingredients and cooking techniques is also important. Must be able to create weekly menus and cook food in a timely manner. Work independently and ensure appealing plate presentation. Creative with recipes and suggest new ingredients. Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area. Experience with Indian / Asian / Middle Eastern cuisines is preferred, and Arabic cuisine experience is desirable.
Responsibilities
- Create weekly menu
- Cook food in a timely manner
- Work independently
- Ensure appealing plate presentation
- Slightly modify recipes to meet needs and requests (e.g. reduce salt, low cholesterol food, low sugar, etc.)
- Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages
- Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items
- Be creative with recipes and suggest new ingredients
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area
- Have experience with Indian / Asian / Middle Eastern cuisines and prefer Arabic cuisine
- Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
- Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
- Check quantities and quality of ingredients
- Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment (e.g. grillers, etc.)
- Knowledge of culinary, baking and pastry techniques, cold appetizers, including salads, vegetable and meat roll-ups and bruschettas
- Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks in the house
- Excellent time management abilities
- Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes
- Proven experience as a cook
- Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware
- Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.)
- Excellent physical condition and stamina (no chronic disease)
- Able to labeling and stocking all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible
- Measuring ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
- Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees, etc.
- Store ingredients to keep them fresh and reduce food wastage
- Check food plating, temperature and portions for all cold dishes
- Sterilize and clean kitchen and equipment at the end of each meals
- Recommend modern recipes to renew our menu and add nutritious, creative cold dishes
- Maintain a clean station at all times
