Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Dubai is seeking a Power Systems Engineer with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and 3–7 years of experience in power systems. The role includes conducting power system studies, designing control systems, and ensuring compliance with local regulations. Proficiency in power system software is essential. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and excellent communication abilities, with knowledge of renewable technologies as a plus.

Job description
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct power system studies (load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, arc flash, stability) for utility, industrial, or renewable projects.
  • Design and review single‑line diagrams (SLDs), protection schemes, and control systems.
  • Develop technical specifications for electrical equipment such as transformers, switch‑gear, relays, and cable systems.
  • Support grid code compliance analysis and assist in integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) like solar PV or battery energy storage.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and local utilities (e.g., DEWA, ADWEA, TRANSCO) for design approvals, interconnection studies, and permitting.
  • Review and validate vendor technical submittals and drawings to ensure conformance with project and local authority requirements.
  • Participate in factory acceptance tests (FATs), site acceptance tests (SATs), and commissioning activities for power systems equipment.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, project documentation, and engineering studies for submission to clients and authorities.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety and environmental (HSE) standards during all stages of project execution.
  • Stay updated with evolving UAE regulatory standards and international best practices in power systems engineering.
Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or related specialization).
  • Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., DEWA/ADWEA approval, PMP or PE license) is a plus.
Experience
  • 3–7 years of experience in power systems engineering ideally within the GCC or Middle East power infrastructure sector.
  • Hands‑on experience with power system planning, grid studies, load flow, short circuit, stability and protection coordination.
  • Experience working with utilities (DEWA, ADWEA, TRANSCO, SEWA, FEWA) is highly preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in power system software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT Power Factory, PSCAD, or PSS/E.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards (IEEE, IEC, DEWA/TRANSCO specifications).
  • Knowledge of renewable integration, SCADA systems, and smart grid technologies.
Other Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (Arabic is an advantage).
  • Valid UAE driving license is an advantage.
  • Ability to work onsite in high‑voltage substations and power plants as needed.
