Job description

Responsible for providing safe, effective, evidence based and comprehensive physiotherapy services.


Responsibilities

Managerial – In an inter‑disciplinary manner, communicating with and working alongside physiotherapy colleagues and other healthcare staff where combined treatment and\/or management is indicated.


Supervising junior staff and ensuring their adherence to ongoing policies and procedures as applied and implemented in the Section\/Department\/Facility (as per requirement).


Maintaining sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties.


Reporting shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience, ordering and approving replenishments when necessary.


Deputizing for Senior Physiotherapist if requested.


Technical

Formulating and delivering a highly specialized, individual physiotherapy treatment program based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using advanced clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment e.g. Manual techniques, electrotherapy, patient education, appliances, exercise classes, and other alternative options.


Undertaking a comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with diverse or complex\/multi pathology presentations. Use highly specialized and advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques, to provide an accurate physiotherapy diagnosis of their condition.


Formulating accurate physiotherapy prognoses, recommend best course of intervention and develop comprehensive discharge plans.


Testing and measuring patients’ function e.g. Strength, motor development and function, sensor perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency and record the data.


Evaluating patient progress, re‑assessing and altering treatment programs if required. To gather, collate and analyze the information needed to solve a variety of clinical and professional problems, at a highly advanced level.


Using a range of verbal and non‑verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients to progress rehabilitation and treatment programs. This will include many patients who have difficulties in understanding or communicating. For example, patients will be mentally unwell and may also be dysphasic, depressed, deaf or blind.


Being responsible for maintaining and monitoring adequate stock levels, supplements and primary resources, and advising on their appropriate use within the work area.


Travelling with patients, whenever required within and outside the United Arab Emirates, for physiotherapy treatment.


Performing home physiotherapy as required.


Interpreting for patients, if bilingual and required.


Quality & Safety

Being responsible for the safe and competent use of all electrotherapy equipment, gym equipment, pool equipment and patient appliances and aids by patients and ensure that junior staff\/assistants attain competency prior to use.


Being responsible for the day‑to‑day safe and competent use of equipment (in own area), which may be of high value, used by patients and staff in the area of work.


Promoting and maintaining quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place. Conduct method evaluation\/development as per standard policies and procedures.


Complying with all safety, health and quality control programs and procedures as applicable.


Complying with applicable precautions for environmental safety, infection control, using a series of interventions that minimize or prevent cross infection.


Maintaining the strictest confidence in relation to patient information whether formally or informally recorded.


Practicing within the expressed limits of established policies and procedures.


Ensuring that SOP (standard operation procedures) and Quality Assurance tests are maintained within all sections.


Being responsible for documenting all intervention in appropriate format.


Comply and support clinical audit processes within the service and report on these as agreed.


Communicating in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family and other care providers as necessary to explain procedures, clarify orders and communicate status.


Interacting courteously with doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers when answering questions or providing other information.


Education

Assisting in training of students if required.

Special Certificate:-



  • Required: NLT 2 years as a Physiotherapist in a large hospital in relevant experience with patients with same diagnosis seen in acute care hospital or rehab facilities.

  • Desired: Wide background is preferred (i.e. ICU, acute medical\/surgical) with 1 year of demonstrated leadership.
