Summary

This position is affiliated with Cincinnati’s Children’s hospital in the USA. The Pediatric Palliative Consultant provides expert care in the management of pain and symptoms for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. The consultant leads clinical decision-making, advance care planning, and end-of-life support while guiding families and multidisciplinary teams. The role also includes education, mentorship, and participation in research initiatives, ensuring delivery of family-centered, high-quality palliative care.

Education/Qualification:
  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
      • USA: American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
      • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
Experience:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT), Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR Switzerland,
    • Sub-Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience after obtaining the main specialty qualification in United Kingdom (CESR) Portugal, Spain, or Italy
    • Sub-Specialties: Minimum of four (4) years of experience after obtaining the sub-specialty qualification in Portugal, Spain, or Italy.
License:
  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the clinical activities of junior medical staff and ensures high standards of patient care.
  • Leads pain and symptom management for children requiring palliative support.
  • Supports advance care planning, decision-making, and communication with children, families, and care teams.
  • Delivers palliative care across multiple settings: inpatient, outpatient, hospice, and home-based care.
  • Engages in the education, supervision, and mentoring of residents and fellows in pediatric palliative medicine.
  • Participates in clinical research and departmental initiatives to maintain professional standards.
  • Promotes multidisciplinary team development and supports specialist nurse roles.
  • Upholds hospital policies, procedures, and medical bylaws in all clinical practice.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and care plans to ensure seamless transitions across care settings.
