Overview
The Lead Project Engineer will be responsible for leading and managing multi-disciplinary engineering activities within Oil & Gas upstream projects at the Contractor and Subcontractor level. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to coordinate engineering deliverables across disciplines, ensuring quality, cost, and schedule compliance. The ideal candidate will have a process or mechanical engineering background, with extensive experience in both engineering and EPC environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all engineering activities for assigned Oil & Gas upstream projects, from concept to detailed design and execution support.
- Manage and coordinate a multi-disciplinary engineering team of 20+ professionals, ensuring technical quality and timely delivery of engineering packages.
- Allocate resources, track progress, and resolve technical challenges in coordination with project management.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements.
- Provide strong working knowledge across other engineering disciplines, particularly: Process, Mechanical, Piping, Civil, and Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I).
- Collaborate closely with EPC contractors, clients, and vendors to ensure engineering alignment and smooth interface management.
- Participate in technical bid evaluations, subcontractor reviews, and supplier qualification processes.
- Support procurement by reviewing technical specifications, vendor documents, and shop drawings.
- Develop and monitor engineering schedules, ensuring critical milestones are met.
- Ensure adherence to HSE standards and regulatory requirements in all engineering activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or above in Engineering (Process, Mechanical, Civil preferred).
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Oil & Gas upstream engineering, including at least 5 years in a Lead/Engineering Management role in UAE.
- 5+ years UAE experience and knowledge is a must.
- ADNOC or other energy sector project experience preferred.
- Proven experience in both engineering design and EPC project environments.
- Experience working at Contractor and Subcontractor level for major Oil & Gas projects.
- Demonstrated experience in engineering management, planning, and resource allocation.
- Strong understanding of project bidding/tendering processes and document preparation.
- Familiarity with Primavera P6 / MS Project for scheduling and milestone tracking.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, and other relevant engineering software.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and report-writing skills.
