Overview
The E&S Engineer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and reporting Environmental and Social (E&S) requirements at project sites to ensure compliance with statutory regulations, client requirements, and international standards (IFC, World Bank, ISO 14001, etc.).
Responsibilities
- Environmental Management: Implement the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and project-specific E&S requirements; ensure compliance with local environmental laws, client E&S guidelines, and statutory approvals; monitor environmental aspects including waste management, air, noise, and water quality; hazardous material handling; spill prevention and control; conduct regular site inspections and audits and close observations; maintain environmental records, permits, and reports.
- Social & Sustainability Aspects: Implement Social Management Plans (SMP) as per project and client requirements; monitor labor camp conditions, worker welfare, and community-related issues; address grievances and support the Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM); ensure compliance with labor laws, ethical practices, and human rights standards; support stakeholder engagement activities when required.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and submit daily / weekly / monthly E&S reports; support internal and external audits, client inspections, and third-party assessments; track E&S KPIs and support sustainability reporting.
- Training & Awareness: Conduct E&S inductions and toolbox talks for employees and subcontractors; promote environmental awareness and sustainability best practices at site.
- Coordination: Coordinate with construction teams, subcontractors, and consultants on E&S matters; liaise with clients, authorities, and auditors on E&S compliance issues.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering / Civil Engineering / Environmental Science / Sustainability or related discipline.
- Experience: 6 -10 years of relevant experience in E&S / Environmental / Sustainability roles, preferably in infrastructure, EPC, or construction projects.
- Certifications (Preferred):
- NEBOSH Environmental / IEMA / ISO 14001 Lead Auditor
- IFC / World Bank E&S exposure (added advantage)
