Job description

We are looking for a motivated, energetic Dance Teacher who can teach multiple dance styles (Ballet, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Acrodance, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Stretch & Strengthening etc.) to the join the team!

The main purpose of the Dance Teacher will be to educate, instruct, inspire and guide students to reach their full potential as dancers, to foster a love and appreciation for the art of dance, to act as a professional role model to students and parents of students and contribute to the development of the Academy.

The main job duties and responsibilities are:

• Ensure current examination syllabi are being taught in their entirety. Ensure understanding and compliance with all exam syllabi.
• Demonstrate high standards of teaching thereby impacting on the learning and achievement of students and, as such, be a positive role model to students.
• Create and maintain a studio environment where students are eager to attend lessons and practice. Motivate students and encourage progress.
• Continuously assess student’s ability and provide feedback on progress to students and parents of students. Be available to discuss concerns and achievements.
• Actively participate and assist in all academy events including meetings, parent’s evenings, information days, concerts, recitals, workshops, academy productions, public performances, academy promotional events, competitions, mock examinations, etc.
• Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and values.
• Discuss any student concerns, teaching concerns or resource requirements with the line manager.
• Attend and actively participate in all internally or externally provided training courses, workshops and meetings as required.
• Interact and collaborate well with students, parents of students, colleagues and management. Maintain positive relationships with all and act as a communication channel between students, parents of students and management.
• Any other duties as reasonably requested by the line manager.

We are looking for someone with the following experience and qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in dance, performing arts or a related field.
• Minimum two (2) years experience teaching dance, with a strong background in a variety of dance styles.
• Must have experience teaching young students.
• General knowledge of lesson planning to develop lesson plans that are appropriate for the age and skill level of the students and that cover a range of dance techniques and choreography.
• General knowledge of classroom management to create a safe and positive learning environment, setting expectations and boundaries and addressing disruptive behaviour.
• Ability to teach dance technique and choreography effectively, using a variety of teaching methods and adapting the teaching style to meet the needs of students.
• Ability to identify and correct technical errors.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback to students and assess student progress, identifying areas for improvement to helping students achieve their goals.
• Self-motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Approachable and positive attitude.
• Demonstrate patience and a passion for and experience in teaching all age groups and skill levels.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen actively, provide clear and concise instructions and build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
• Passion for dance education and a commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
