Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer chemotherapy, immunologic, and biologic medications per protocols.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and manage complications promptly.
- Perform venipuncture, cannulation, and manage central venous access devices.
- Conduct pre- and post-treatment assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans and self-care strategies.
- Mentor junior staff, support training, and act as a resource for complex cases.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and participate in audits.
- Collaborate with oncologists, pharmacists, and allied health professionals for holistic care.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Master’s or postgraduate study advantageous.
- Minimum 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in oncology/hematology.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification.
- Expertise in chemotherapy administration, strong clinical knowledge, leadership ability, excellent communication, and proficiency in MS Office.
Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Administer chemotherapy and supportive medications according to protocols and safety standards.
- Administer immunologic and biologic medications, including but not limited to monoclonal antibodies and targeted therapies, following established protocols and guidelines.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and manage complications promptly.
- Perform venipuncture, cannulation, and care of central venous access devices.
- Conduct pre-treatment assessments and post-treatment evaluation and develop individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical record systems.
Patient and Family Education and Support
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, potential side effects, and self-care strategies.
- Provide emotional support and counseling throughout the treatment journey.
Leadership and Supervision
- Mentor to junior staff nurses and other members and ensure adherence to clinical guidelines.
- Participate in staff training and competency assessments.
- Act as a resource for complex cases and escalate concerns appropriately.
Quality and Safety
- Comply with infection control and chemotherapy handling protocols.
- Participate in audits, incident reporting, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Coordination
- Collaborate with oncologists, pharmacists, and allied health professionals for holistic care.
- Schedule and manage patient flow in the unit efficiently
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in oncology/haematology.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred.
- Awareness and understanding of King’s College Hospital (KCH) policies and initiatives.
- Resuscitation Certificate as per the specialty& Demonstrable ongoing and active Continues Personal Development (CPD)
- Competency training
- Demonstrated expertise in chemotherapy administration, therapeutic phlebotomy, and the administration of immunologic and biologic medications.
- Strong knowledge of oncologic and hematologic diseases, treatment modalities, and potential complications
- Proficiency in performing comprehensive assessments and developing individualized care plans.
- Supports quality patient care by showing empathy, maintaining patient dignity, and following proper protocols.
- Supports and guides junior team members, offering advice and assistance if required.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and discretion, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Proficient in basic computer applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with the ability to manage digital documentation and communication effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and stakeholders.
- Highly self-motivated with strong internal work standards; sets realistic goals for self and supports others in achieving team objectives.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, ensuring goals are met in dynamic environments.
