Job description

The AutoCAD Drafter / CAD Technician reports to the Engineering Lead / Product Director and is responsible for producing, maintaining, and updating high-quality technical drawings for Unified Aviation's products and project-specific deliverables. This role supports both standard product development and bespoke project work, ensuring drawings are accurate, consistent, compliant, and ready for fabrication, assembly, installation, and client submission. Occasionally you may also be required to help in other areas of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Product & Standard Drawing Development

• Produce and maintain AutoCAD drawings for Unified Aviation products, including general arrangements, details, assemblies, and standard components.
• Update and control master drawing sets as products evolve, incorporating engineering changes and lessons learned from production and site deployment.
• Ensure standard drawings are clear, buildable, and suitable for fabrication, assembly, and installation teams.
• Support development of drawing templates, layers, blocks, title blocks, and drafting standards.

Project-Specific Drafting

• Produce project-specific drawings based on standard products, adapting layouts, interfaces, and details to suit site conditions and client requirements.
• Prepare drawings for concept, planning, detailed design, construction, and as-built stages as required.
• Incorporate inputs from engineering, project management, production, and site teams into coordinated drawing packages.
• Revise drawings efficiently in response to design changes, RFIs, and site feedback.

Coordination & Technical Support

• Work closely with engineers, project managers, production teams, and installation teams to ensure drawings reflect real-world requirements and constraints.
• Support preparation of drawing packages for authority submissions, client approvals, and contractor issue.
• Assist with interpretation of drawings for internal teams and external partners where required.

Quality, Accuracy & Document Control

• Ensure all drawings are accurate, dimensionally correct, and consistent with design intent.
• Apply correct drawing scales, annotations, tolerances, and notes.
• Maintain clear revision control and drawing registers.
• Ensure drawings comply with internal drafting standards and applicable aviation, structural, and construction requirements where defined.

Site & Production Feedback

• Incorporate feedback from assembly, testing, and site installation into drawing updates and improvements.
• Assist in producing as-built drawings based on redlines and site mark-ups.
• Support continuous improvement of drawing clarity and buildability.

General Support & Flexibility

• Provide drafting support across multiple projects concurrently, managing priorities effectively.
• Assist other departments with technical drawings, layouts, or documentation during peak periods.
• Support continuous improvement of drafting processes, tools, and workflows.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Drafting, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience using AutoCAD in a technical drafting role in fabrication or construction fields.
• Strong experience producing 2D technical drawings for fabrication, construction, or engineered products.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering sketches, mark‑ups, and technical inputs.
• High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and consistency.
• Experience working with structured drawing sets, revisions, and document control.
• Comfortable working across both standard product drawings and custom project deliverables.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple drawing tasks and deadlines.
• Native‑level English proficiency (CEFR C1/C2 or equivalent), with clear written communication.
• Experience in aviation, industrial, modular construction, or steel structures is an advantage but not essential.
